Disaster Specialist - AmeriCorps*VISTA position

DISASTER SPECIALIST
AmeriCorps*VISTA Member

Role:

AmeriCorps*VISTA member will interact with community leaders in order to develop a comprehensive volunteer management plan to assist with the increase in call volume during times of disaster.

Responsibilities:

· Assist with the development of a disaster and volunteer management plan for United Way of Fresno County.
· Assist with training and management of the 2-1-1 volunteer program.
· Develop and implement plan to identify resources available to the Fresno County population in a disaster.
· Assist with building surge capacity of 2-1-1.
· Communicate to local leaders and the public how 2-1-1 can serve in a time of disaster.
· Assist with Fresno-Madera Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (FMVOAD).
· Attend disaster related meetings, events and trainings.
· Collect data on service delivery.
· Document all procedures.
· Provide administrative and other support for 2-1-1 team members.
· Personally endorse the purposes and programs of United Way and answer questions when appropriate.
· Demonstrate a positive attitude and initiative as an enthusiastic team member.

Required Qualifications:

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. · Strong communication skills (written and oral).
· Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
· Ability to work closely with staff, local leaders, and citizens from disadvantaged communities.
· Comfortable speaking in public.
· Ability to work independently and be a positive and productive member of a work team.
· Computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
· Must be at least 18 years of age and be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident.
· High School Diploma or GED.
· Posses a valid CA driver’s license, reliable transportation and proof of current automobile insurance.
· Ability to pass the Department of Justice background check.
· College degree or 2-5 years experience preferred.
· Bilingual is preferred but not required.
· Experience or high level of interest in at least one of the following areas:
- Community and Economic Development
- Community Outreach & Empowerment
- Disaster Relief
- Health
- Homeland Security
- Leadership Development
- Public Safety
- Resource Access Issues

Commitment:

· Full time (approximately 40 hours a week).
· One full year of service.

Marketing Intern

CVBI is looking for an Intern to help develop marketing concepts, plans, materials and to work on our website. The upper division student or graduate should have an understanding of marketing, graphic presentation, and Dreamweaver.

The internship will provide opportunities to work in a close team environment, directly with program directors. The intern will also be exposed to small business marketing needs, and will meet other professionals in the marketing field.

The Intern should have general marketing skills to cover a wide variety of activities. 10-20 Hours per week. $10 per hour. Candidates should come to an interview with: Suggestions for improving the www.cvbi.org website, suggested copy for a fictitious 30-second radio spot for a CVBI class, and a proposed layout for a 8.5 x 11 flyer for a fictitious CVBI event.
