Technical Writer

Company: DPS Telecom Fresno, CA.
Department: Marketing
Reports to: Marketing Supervisor
Hours: M-F, Full Time (40+hrs weekly)
Starting Hourly Pay Rate: Entry Level

Technical Writer works on all phases of information development for product user manuals and internal standard operating procedures; from information gathering, research, and interviewing, to writing and editing. The ideal candidate must also be capable of producing high quality documents, possess precise proofreading abilities and must be able to interact with different level staff across various departments.
Basic duties include but are not limited to:

  • Creating and editing product user manuals, including setup and operation of products.
  • Creating and editing marketing materials, including product summaries.
  • Creating articles for use in printed and web-based publications.
  • Conducting client interviews and transcribing them to create success stories.
  • Will assist in creation of press releases for new products, technology, and partnerships.
  • Documenting internal standard operating procedure.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, English or related field
  • Strong skills in MS Word and familiarity with the MS Office suite of programs.
  • Type 40+ WPM
  • Basic HTML
  • Basic Photoshop skills (cropping, cloning, drop shadow, etc).
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Proven ability to absorb key product strategy details and integrate into writing
  • Capable of meeting tight deadlines, balancing multiple projects, executing under pressure and providing quick turnaround
  • Must be flexible and enjoy working in an extremely fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Must be a self-starter with proven ability to take initiative and experience successfully prioritizing competing deadlines

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Show demonstrated ability to self manage: i.e. identify obstacles, find solutions, and communicate with management

  • Have very strong writing/editing skills to research, create and maintain technical documents
