AmeriCorps Ambassador

The Fresno Safe and Proud Neighborhoods (FSPN) AmeriCorps Program, led by Fresno County Economic Opportunities Commission (EOC) in collaboration with the Fresno Citizen Corps, is an all hazards approach to public safety, crime prevention, and strategies for improved homeland security in the Fresno community. FSPN is currently looking for 40 individuals ages 18+ who exemplify the necessary leadership capabilities required of this position.
 
In addition to making a difference in the Fresno community, members earn a $10,900 stipend, and are provided with dental/health care coverage and for those who qualify, childcare benefits. At the end of a successful full-time one-year term of service, AmeriCorps members earn an education award of $4,725 that they can use to pay for past or future education costs. During their tour of service, members will also be trained in disaster preparation and civic education and earn certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

AmeriCorps Volunteer Position Descriptions:
Public Safety Positions: Give presentations to schools on public safety awareness and install smoke detectors to support the Fresno and Clovis Fire Department. Create Citizen Corps outreach materials to increase awareness and participation in volunteer programs. Help United Way coordinate and maintain Fresno’s first 2-1-1 call center to provide information referral services. Participate in crime prevention activities with the Fresno Police Department. Develop and recruit residents to form Neighborhood Watch groups.

Youth Service Positions: Lead after school and day camp activities for the PAL program. Recruit volunteers to mentor PAL participants. Support existing, and establish new Care Fresno after school programs in apartment complexes. Recruit and train church and community volunteers. Establish disaster plans in local churches and apartment complexes. Provide street outreach services, community resources and small group counseling to homeless youth with the EOC Sanctuary. Tutor youth in EOC School of Unlimited Learning (SOUL) charter school. Lead classroom disaster drills and safety camps.
